Dec. 22--Class Celebration

December 22--Class Celebration

On Wednesday, December 22, we will be making candy trains. Each child will need to bring 2 full size candy bars(not king size). Snickers, Milky Ways, and Three Musketeers work best. Everyone will also need to cover a piece of cardboard with foil to carry the train. If you would be able to donate frosting, rope licorice, pinwheel candies (red/white or green/white mints), stick pretzels, and small candy to help decorate the trains, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your help.
Also on this date, we will be exchanging presents. Each child is to make a gift or find a present without spending more than $1. We’ll have a White Elephant gift exchange. To make this fun, it’s important to have a variety of presents but nothing that might hurt someone’s feelings if they receive it. Please wrap the present and bring it to school by Wednesday morning. Thank you for helping make this a fun day for us!

It's a Busy Time of Year:

It is definitely a busy time of year! We continue to work hard in the 6th grade. As the holidays get closer, I try not to send home too much homework and give the students plenty of time to complete their work in class. Again, it is so important that children are at school. Thank you in your cooperation and help with making sure your child has enough sleep and comes to school ready to learn.
On Tuesday, December 14 we will be taking a field trip to the Moss Mansion. Admission is $1. Soon a permission slip will come home for you to sign and return. The fabulous PTA is paying for our bus! THANK YOU!
Just a reminder with all of the snow. Please have kids wear winter jackets, hats, gloves, boots, and even snow pants. It also is a good idea to bring extra socks and a baggie to put the wet ones in. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I've been negligent on keeping up on my blog.
We are very busy in 6th grade. We are currently reading Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. It is a great book. Ask your child about it and have them tell you their opinion of the book. Today we had a scavenger hunt using the book. The kids had to find examples of bravery and friendship plus the various types of sentences and parts of speech. Most were most challenged with trying to find a metaphor and a simile.
We are currently working on chapter 3 in math. Have your child teach you our new math game Bizz Buzz. It's really fun and challenging.
In language our focus has been possessive nouns, nouns that show ownership. Have your child find examples in the newspaper, a magazine, or a book they're reading.
I hope to see all of you at Parent-Teacher Conferences next week. Expect your child's report card to come home on Tuesday of next week.
Thank you, class, for being awesome! I absolutely love coming to work every day!

The End is Near!

Believe it or not, we only have 3 weeks of school left. Some kids will know by tomorrow if they make our end of the year field trip to Geyser Park with lunch and a movie. They need 6 out of 8 weeks signed on their blue sheets. The end of school is coming quickly. Next week everyone is invited to attend the Talent Show on Monday, May 17th from 2:00-3:00. On Wednesday please come to Pastries for Parents from 7:30-8:25 am and enjoy juice, coffee, and a donut with your child. Finally, we are all excited about our PE Folf field trip next Friday, May 21 from 11:30-2:15. Make sure your child has his/her permission slip in and a sack lunch packed. It will be important to have a water bottle...I'm not sure if the water at Pioneer Park is turned on yet. As you can see, the end of the year is very busy. Thanks for keeping your child focused on finishing the year on a positive note and helping them continue to do their best.

Voicethread

Guess what boys and girls...I'm in a technology class all Saturday. We're learning about Voicethread. You already know about Voicethread because we watched Mrs. Betts's 3rd graders use Photo Booth and Voicethread to show lines of symmetry. I created the beginning of a Voicethread for our Social Studies unit on Ancient Egypt's social classes. You will add your voice during this week. Start thinking of what you would like to say.
Have a great weekend.

Spelling Bee:

Our school Spelling Bee will be next Thursday, February 25 at 1:30 in the gym. Our class winners are:
Cailey, Austin, Alexis, Shyanne, and Caleb with Ethan and Ramela as our alternates. Study those challenge words in our spelling book and maybe even the dictionary. Good luck! Parents are invited to attend and support their child.

This Friday our class has earned a campout. We will move our desks to the hall and set up our tents, sleeping bags, lanterns, and flashlights. The kids can bring a drink and a snack. Some have volunteered to bring graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows to make s'mores. We will learn and have class as usual at our campsite. This should be a fun experience.

Please remember that next Friday, Feb. 26 is only a half day. Students will be dismissed at 12:00.

Have a great week!

Venture Theater will be back again this year. Tryouts are Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 3:15. Rehearsals then begin next Monday, Jan. 11 to Friday, Jan. 22 from 3:15-5:00. I hope a lot of my 6th graders are able to participate in this great program. I have some wonderful actors/actresses in here and would love for them to be a part of this. Thank you PTA for paying for Venture Theater to do a production with the students of Bitterroot!
Wishing you and your family a healthy, happy 2010!
