Spring Break is Next Week?

With this weather, it is hard to believe that Spring Break is next week. Yikes! I hope it warms up! Yesterday we had Chris Dixon come to our class as a guest speaker. He talked about appreciating our parents, being a team, and making sure our team is successful. Everyone really got a lot out of his talk. The kids are working hard to have no missing work for 3 weeks. Chris challenged them to help others be successful and to turn in all of their work on time. Ask your child what will happen if we succeed. I will see all of you tomorrow! Remember....only half of a day tomorrow. Children are dismissed at noon.

What a Great Day!

We had a wonderful day today! The kids worked hard. The only homework they may have is math. We will have a chapter 6 math test on Wednesday. We reviewed and practiced today as we will do tomorrow. I encourage all of the students to review the chapter with the "More Practice" pages at the end of the chapter. We are also reviewing Geometry each day.
In reading we orally read chapter 2 in the novel Summer of the Monkeys. The next assignment will be for the students to write a Journal/Diary entry from one of the character's point of view. It will be important for the writing to include feeling words and specifics of what the character saw and what exactly happened in the character's perspective. We will finish ch. 2 tomorrow and then work on our writing.
In spelling we are on Unit 25. We will have a test over it on Friday.
Social Studies has been interesting. We are studying the history of how Judaism began. Many students have brought in their Bibles and/or shared their own beliefs. I always find it interesting learning of others' views and beliefs. We are not saying one is right or wrong--they are beliefs that various people have. Some may be different than our own and some may be similar. Our Lesson 11 test will be on Friday.
As you can see, I am trying to finish up several subjects because next week we have Spring Break. We won't finish our novel but we will pick that up when we come back on March 9th.
Mr. Ashcraft is planning to have training for Conflict Managers on Monday, March 9. It will be held during that morning. More information to come.
More exciting news:
-We will be having a guest speaker this Wednesday morning. Ask your child to see if they were listening when I let them know. :)
-We also have another special guest speaker in April. Rusty the counselor will be coming to our school. If you don't know who this is, ask your child. He gives us good advice every morning and we write about his toolbox question in our Writer's Notebooks. You can also go to his site by clicking on "Rusty" from my favorite links.

Hope all of you have a superb week! Remember to smile. People will wonder what you're up to. :)
