Yeah! It's Friday!

We had a great day. The kids have been fantastic this whole week. They've been focused and working hard. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend. I will be enjoying some much needed family time! Hope you will too.

Word of the day: candor-the quality of being open and honest in expression

It's Thursday already!

Today in reading we worked individually. We are reading Chapters 9 and 10 of the book Tracker. Students are to do the following work in their journal:
1. Write 2 personal opinions with reasons.
2. Write 3 questions they would like to ask the author.
3. Draw 1 visualization with a 1-2 sentence explanation.
4. Describe John's emotions at the end of chapter 10. Predict how the book will end.
Be ready to share thoughts in Book Club on Friday morning.

In math we started chapter 5 yesterday. We are learning how to multiply fractions and mixed numbers. Today's assignment is p. 254 (14-25). With a deck of cards, you can play Guess my Factors to help practice math facts. We played yesterday and everyone had a lot of fun.

Today in science, students will use household materials, each with its own properties, to make a different material with new properties. We will be making slime out of Borax, white glue and water. Be expecting it to come home tonight in a baggie.

Hope you have a good day!

We're halfway there!

Hi. As you can see I'm trying to be more diligent in my blogging. Today during computer lab I showed the kids how to get to my blog and we also looked at Ms. Erickson's blog. If you haven't already checked hers out, you definitely should. Afterwards, we came up with a list of items the students would like to see on our class blog. I will be trying (learning as I go) to put the following on the blog: daily assignment notebook, weekly spelling list, upcoming events and important dates, book reviews written by students, word and quote of the day. I hope you will visit daily.

Welcome to Tuesday!

Today we will meet in our Book Clubs to discuss chapters 5 and 6. The work included having the students write 2 facts, 2 opinions from the book, and then write their own opinion about a character or situation in the story. I have found 6th graders to be great at debate!:)
Yesterday we had Social Studies test over chapter 8. I was so impressed--all A's and B's!!! Way to go!
Today we will have our Chapter 4 math test. Most are doing very well. We will review before the test. Look for the test to come home by Thursday.
Have a great day!

In reading we have started Book Clubs. We are all reading the book Tracker. The children are reading the book individually while completing various journaling activities to bring back to their Book Club, or small discussion group.
In math we will take our Chapter 4 test on Tuesday. We begin Chapter 5 on Wednesday. It involves multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. It is a somewhat short chapter.

Wishing all a Happy 2009!
