Bitterroot Read-a-Thon

Just a reminder that Bitterroot is having a read-a-thon with the school's goal of reading 45,000 minutes. If this goal is reached, then Mr. Senitte will get sawed in half at our special Magic Show. This is what Mr. Senitte has to say so far:
'The total minutes read from the envelopes collected this morning is 15,875 minutes...quite a ways from the 45,000 goal. We had more envelopes returned today, but not near as many as we had hoped. With only 4 days left of the read-a-thon, one could say that Mr. Senitte is feeling quite confident of not having to get sawed in two!'

Oh, no! We need to read, read, read!!! Bring your envelopes in on Wednesday and Friday so Special Activities can count the minutes. Write down every minute you read!!! And try to get sponsors to donate to our cause...we're trying to raise money for a new computer lab. C'mon 6th graders! We can do this!!!

Public Announcement

The Parmly Billings Library Foundation is in the process of soliciting public comment from the people in Billings regarding a new public library. Will Bruder, of Will Bruder and Associates, is the architect leading the planning process, which involves several opportunities for public input.

He is hosting public listening/input sessions at the Parmly Billings Library 3rd floor meeting room on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Sessions are being held at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. He is interested in hearing your ideas about what you would like your public library to look like, feel like, be able to provide to our community. Our entire community is invited to attend - so please encourage your family, friends and neighbors to get involved, and attend one of the sessions that day.

Have questions? Please feel free to contact Leslie Modrow, Parmly Billings Library Foundation Director by e-mail at modrowl@ci.billings.mt.us

Doodle 4 Google:

Check out this great opportunity for all of those creative kids out there. Go to the following site for more information.

http://www.google.com/doodle4google/

Doodle 4 Google 2010 Event Highlights

We're honored to be partnering with the Whitney Museum of American Art for the competition and formal exhibit of our 40 Regional Finalists. As the country's leading museum of American art, the Whitney encourages imagination and creativity by challenging young people to think and work like artists.

…Become a doctor with my own TV show.
…Invent rocket shoes that let you fly.
…Open a zoo for the world’s endangered animals.
Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a competition where we invite K-12 students to use their artistic talents to think big and redesign Google’s homepage logo for millions to see. At Google, we believe that dreaming about future possibilities leads to tomorrow’s leaders and inventors, so this year we're inviting U.S. kids to exercise their creative imaginations around the theme, "What I’d like to do someday…"

Whether students want to find a cure for cancer or take a trip to the moon, it all starts with art supplies and some 8.5" x 11" paper. And, one lucky student artist will take home a $15,000 college scholarship and $25,000 technology grant for their school, among many other prizes.

Registration closes at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time (PT) on March 2, 2011, and entries must be postmarked by March 16, 2011 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). The winning doodle will be featured on our Google.com homepage on May 20, 2011.

New! Changes to Doodle 4 Google in 2011

Parents Can Register Their Kids: This year, based on your feedback, we are expanding the contest. Now, in addition to schools, parents and legal guardians can directly register their K-12 students in the contest and submit their doodles. Check with your child’s school or After School Programs first to see if they are participating, since we only allow one entry per student. As always, public, private and home schools can register on behalf of their students.
After School Programs: We are working with two After School Programs: Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Girl Scouts of the USA to register students.
No Cap On Doodles Per School: There is no cap on how many doodles each school, After School Program, or family can send in. Just remember, only one doodle per child.
A Variety Of Guest Judges: This year, a group of guest judges, including Whoopi Goldberg, Actress/Comedian/TV Talk Show Host, Jim Davis, Creator of "Garfield", and Evan Lysacek, Gold Medalist for Ice Skating, and several other well known cartoonists, animators and illustrators will help judge the contest and attend the final awards ceremony to personally congratulate our winners.

Hi everyone! Hope you had a great 3 day weekend. Just a few reminders. Report cards come home this Friday. If you have questions, please call, email, or come in. Also, I am having an after school Math Group from 3:10-3:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is a great time to review what we have learned, answer questions about concepts that a student may not understand, and practice. Your child is welcome to come one time or every time.
I'm looking for someone who can help with 6th grade snack sales on Thursdays at 2:20. If you have a primary child that you are picking up and wouldn't mind coming a few minutes early and staying a few minutes late to help us out, please let me know. All money raised helps us have a 6th grade graduation and celebration at the end of the year. We also could use donations of snacks. Thank you!
Live. Laugh. Love.
