Student Council Begins Soon

Mr. Senitte just visited with all of the 6th grade students about Student Council. All students that write and give a speech on Monday, December 7 at 10:00 am will make it into Student Council. The students who receive the top 3 number of votes will take turns as President, Treasurer, and Secretary. All other 6th graders in Student Council will be part of one of the following committees: School Store, Technology, Building and Grounds, or School Spirit/Special Activities. We are hoping for a good turn out again this year. It is a big commitment but the rewards are worth the hard work. Please encourage your child to run for Student Council!

We just finished chapter 3 in math. Their tests looked good. (You should be able to take a look at them tonight.) We are starting to add and subtract fractions.

In reading we have started Book Clubs. Your child is in a small group of students who all chose the same book to read. They had a choice of Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, Tuck Everlasting, or A Wrinkle in Time. All are great books! Each student has a booklet to work on as they read. They are expected to answer questions in complete thoughts and sentences. Students are allowed to work together on the booklets and work on them at home. Yesterday, all groups met and made timelines of how many pages would be read each day and when each worksheet would be due. I then met with each group to make sure all agreed and that it was doable. Many groups are choosing to read much of their book in the evening at home. I will also be meeting with each group at least every other day to make sure all are on track. Ask your child about his or her plan for completing the book and work.

In science, I was extremely proud of their creative amusement park rides. We are now starting the next book called Nature of Matter.

Hope you have a great week! Enjoy our winter wonderland!
